legend status was granted thanks to her long running role as
brassy Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street. Began her career
on the radio in Children's hour and also wrote for comedians
such as Harry Worth. She joined Coronation Street from the
start in 1960 and stayed with it on and off until 1984. She
died from lung cancer in 1986.
