DOUGLAS RAE 

PRODUCER 

Douglas Rae began his professional career as a trainee reporter with the Scottish Daily Express in Edinburgh .   At 17, he was appointed the country’s youngest editor at the Kirriemuir Herald in Angus.   After two years with the Scottish Daily Mail, where he wrote on cinema and covered the Edinburgh Festival, Rae joined Scottish Television as a presenter and reporter.  Following a course at The National Film School, he became a producer and director and in 1988 formed Ecosse Films.  In 1997 he executive produced his first feature film, the acclaimed and Oscar nominated Mrs. Brown, starring Dame Judi Dench.  Recent film productions include Charlotte Gray; Wilderness and Becoming Jane.  For television Rae has executive produced The Ambassador; An Unsuitable Job for a Woman; seven series of the hugely successful BBC drama, Monarch of the Glen and Kitchen starring Eddie Izzard.  In 1997 Rae was named Scottish Filmmaker of the Year by Scottish Screen, presented with the Scottish Icon Award for Innovation in 2004 and the Silver Thistle Award for Outstanding Contribution to Scotland in 2005.
